There was a joint UNLV
ASCE - YMF Clark County Water Reclamation District (CCWRD) Main
Plant Tour on February 6, 2010. During the tour we were able to
see the various treatment processes from start to finish. Although
it was cold and rainy, we still had a great turnout and a great
time!!
We were given a behind
the scenes tour of The Fountains of Bellagio by the Front Feature
Manager, Mr. Gene Bowling! We were able to see the various nozzles
used for the show and even the workshop where the nozzle are rehabbed.
The icing on the cake was a preview of each nozzle, the oarsman
and various shooters, from a balcony (front and center to the fountains)
and finally a Fountains of Bellagio performance!
On October 17, 2009,
we met at near the Silver Bowl to join in the tailgating festivities!
UNLV played Utah that week, which led to heartbreak for the die-hard
UNLV fans, but the tailgating was sure enjoyable!
On August 30, 2009, we
went to Mt. Charleston for a picnic to celebrate ASCE's 45th Anniversary.
Everyone who attended reported enjoying the event immensely.
On May 30, 2009, several
of us went out to Pahrump to enjoy a peaceful, relaxing game of
paintball. I guess peaceful and relaxing don't
really fit the fun. It was game on!
On April 25, 2009, we
took a tour at Timet, in which we toured the titanium ingots production
process. Everyone in attendance had a wonderful time.
The YMF activity at the
Rescue Mission on December 26, 2008 turned out to be a great success.
We had 15 volunteers total. They were very appreciative of our help
and are looking forward to us coming out to serve again. I am sure
that I can speak for all who attended by saying, it is always rewarding
to serve others...
"Service is the rent we pay to be living. It is the very purpose
of life and not something you do in your spare time." - Marian
Wright Edelman
Many members attended
the UNLV Tailgate on October 18th for the UNLV vs. Air Force football
game. The tailgate was the perfect way to start the excitement for
UNLV's Homecoming game. Sponsored by the ASCE Southern Nevada Branch
and YMF, a great time was had by all!
Our guest speaker for
the November luncheon was Mayor Oscar Goodman, who candidly told
us about his career, including his days as a lawyer prior to becoming
Mayor of Las Vegas! Mayor Goodman described some of the upcoming
redevelopment projects that many of us in attendance have worked
on, or are currently working on.
